Momentum Continues for Disney’s Live-Action Tangled as Kathryn Hahn Enters Talks for Mother Gothel
Earlier this week, Disney seemingly revived the long‑paused project by officially casting its two lead stars: Teagan Croft as Rapunzel and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider. With the leads now set, many were left wondering who would ultimately fill the remaining major role — the villainous Mother Gothel.

Now, momentum appears to be continuing with Kathryn Hahn entering talks to play Mother Gothel. Hahn earned widespread acclaim for her role as Agatha Harkness in WandaVision and Agatha All Along. Before that, she delivered standout performances in Transparent, Bad Moms, Step Brothers, and Parks and Recreation. Her ability to balance humor, vulnerability, and a touch of mischief makes her a natural fit for Mother Gothel, one of Disney’s most iconic modern villains.
If Hahn officially signs on, she would complete the film’s central trio — a major milestone for a project that has been quietly accelerating after years of development pauses. Still, insiders note that casting alone isn’t enough to keep a project of this scale moving. While Hahn’s talks are a promising sign, the hope is that this momentum continues across scheduling, script work, and early pre‑production as Disney pushes the film toward cameras.
The film will be directed by Michael Gracey, the filmmaker behind The Greatest Showman, with a script from Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, known for Thor: Love and Thunder and I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025). Their involvement has been in place for some time, but with the core cast nearly locked, the project finally appears to be gaining real traction.
